Book Reviews from the Summer Reading Entries

Rumor Has It by Jane B. Mason & Sarah Hines Stephen (Reviewer Gabrielle)
It was very predictable!!  Haha

11 Birthdays by Wendy Mass (Reviewer Gabrielle)
I really liked it! It was a page turner, I love Wendy Mass's books!:)

Eon: dragoneye reborn by Alison Goodman (Reviewer Galena)
GREAT!

Eona by Alison Goodman (Reviewer Galena)
Stunning!

The Mating  by Nicky Charles (Reviewer Geornesha)
It was a great 1st book to a trilogy.

The Giver by Lois Lowery (Reviewer Jackie)
The theme was really refreshing and the book made me think what if I lived in a society like one in the book. I wouldn't like to live the way the society decide everything for me even though it's for everyone's sake.Aalthough I liked it, I didn't like the ending. I would've liked it better if I knew what happened to Jonas after he escaped from the society.

Cover Image"I absolutely loved it! It's the best book ever! I don't know if I would want to live in the Society. I mean, I don't want somebody picking my life out for me! The Officials in the Society decide who you love, where you work, when you die...
But people totally need to read this book! If you don't believe me then take it from them:
""Love triangle + struggle against the powers that be = perfect ... escape.""

Reading In Color

Another new blog added to our list.

About the Blog

Reading in Color is a book blog that reviews YA/MG books about people of color (poc). There is a serious lack of books being reviewed by teens that are YA/MG about people of color, I hope my blog is one step closer to filling in this void.

I started Reading in Color after I discovered the wonderful world of book blogs. I loved being able to discuss books with fellow book lovers. But I soon noticed that very few books about POC were being reviewed. I wanted recommendations of YA books about POC, sometimes I got tired of reading about the white norm. So I started this blog to get recommendations about YA POC and share them with others. After all, I couldn't be the only teen of color who felt this way? Since starting my blog, I've been including MG that features POC.

If you review books about POC or you want to start but don't know what to read first, contact me! I'll add you to my blogroll and I'd be happy to send suggestions and links :)

As I Sit and Wonder by Destiny

(This poem was performed at the LVPL Teen Poetry Slam in April 2012.)

As I sit and wonder

I ask myself why he had to die

Taken at the hands of a drunk

In that very moment my heart sunk

But who was the drunk

A secret I swore I would never reveal

But here on this paper my heart spills

That drunk was my father

All that I had

And now that he's gone

I'm just suddenly sad

My best friend

And my dad

If you could see me now what would you say

Looking at  your daughter with tears rolling down her face

Not Right

The teasing,
The words,
They don't see,
How even that little bit,
That seems to be fit.

Not right,
Their might,
Too strong for me to fight.

The names,
The laughter,
It's all around me,
Surrounds me,
I can't see,
Their evil blinds me.

Not right,
Their might,
Must fight.

The evil they sing,
The good that's not there,
I want to take wing,
To fly, fly far away from here,
Like a bird in the sky.

Not right,
To tried of their might,
To weak to fight.

I'm gone,
So there is none,
Till in the morning,
I will face it again.

Not right,
That strong might,
To tired to fight,
So goodnight.
